We had a litter from Bracken (Colly Moon) and had her out in the paddock near the day she was due to whelp. She came in and deposited a pup on my bed before giving birth to the rest of the litter in the whelping box. Despite the unexpected start all pups did well. We kept Sian (Sheean - a storm of wind & rain), but Hinnie, a Scottish term of endearment, was her pet name. We also kept a boy, Grian (sun) with a pet name of Jamie. Both did well in the show ring with Hinnie winning a CC from Terry Thorn at Blackpool and 2 RCC's as well. Jamie won a RCC also, but both were retired from the ring early - in Hinnie's case due to a failed leg operation while Jamie had hernia problems though he lived to a good age. Both thesehounds were tall with Hinnie 32 and a half ins. while Jamie was 34 and a half ins. This certainly, at least in Hinnie's case, did not go down well in the show ring with certain judges.

The first picture of Bracken and her pups is this Christmas Card entitled 'Guarding the Faerie Knowe'* (no longer available) and this was followed by a postcard of Jamie in the garden of Peter Nicholson's dower house and this was 'Anything You Can Do'.
Dog and Head

Jamie also featured with Marra, a rescue lurcher from our Sanctuary who still lives with Elise and Rob, in the card called 'Peek a Boo'. Both these postcards are available.
Hinnie *was photographed at Tentsmuir in the autumn and this was a somewhat nerve wracking experience as the photographer was lying on the ground in a busy road to take the photograph which seemed to take ages.

We had Hinnie as the 'Hairst Maiden'.

The wreath was to suggest the tradition of the corn maiden at harvest time which wasmade from the last sheaf of the corn and who ever was last to finish was given the doll to keep in the house till the next harvest so naturally no one wanted the honour.
Continuing our Scottish theme we had this card of Hinnie with Raymond Morris, Laird of Balgonie Castle and one of his hounds. This card is still available and has been very popular. We were fortunate that we had this castle setting and the help of the Morris family for our annual St Hubert's Hound Sanctuary Dog Show which gave our rescue dogs a chance to show themselves off and gave us an opportunity to meet all our new friends, human and canine. Two dogs,Monty,a deerhound x from the west and Fergus from Carlisle were taken through us to a new home at Balgonie and others were also lucky both before and after this time.

Old Postcards
Hinnie and Jamie were the 'faerie dogs' of our Christmas card photographed in Ladybank woods, Fife and Hinnie was the hound in another Xmas card* also taken in these woods.
Deerhound
We didn't have any cards of Hinnie's singleton pup, Aisling (dream or vision) probably because she was a bit of a nightmare to handrear!
Old Postcards
She went on to produce 9 pups with our Beardswood boy, Dileas and our three pups from this litter, Hallaig, Eimhir and Rona, were the 'WeThree Kings' Christmas card, one of our current cards.
Old Postcards
We then branched out and added cards which featured Chapeltower hounds - 'Ciamar a tha thu?' ( How are you?), 'New Kid on the Block'
Deerhound
and a more wintery ' The Christmas Bonus'.
Deerhound
It' s also Chapeltower that is the subject of our current notelet 'Curiouser and Curiouser', from 'Alice in Wonderland'.

We also added a lovely card with the setting of Loch an Eilein and card is called Tir nan Og, keeping the Scottish theme going.
